Bible Verses about 'Spirit'

  • For God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth.
  • For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.
  • Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.
  • For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
  • Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.
  • But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets.
  • May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.
  • For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.
  • So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”
  • Create in me a clean heart, O God.
Renew a loyal spirit within me.
  • No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit.

  • Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.
  • Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.

  • This is how we know if they have the Spirit of God: If a person claiming to be a prophet acknowledges that Jesus Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God. Such a person has the spirit of the Antichrist, which you heard is coming into the world and indeed is already here.
  • A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.
  • And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.
  • And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us.
  • And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.
  • So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.
  • The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
  • Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.
