For from the beginning you have heard the message that we should love one another. | For this is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. |
God’s love was revealed to us in this way: God sent his only-begotten Son into the world so that we might have life through him. | By this God’s love was revealed in us, that God has sent his only born Son into the world that we might live through him. |

We also know that the Son of God has come and given us understanding so that we can know the one who is true. And we are in the one who is true, since we are in his Son Jesus Christ. I consider that the sufferings we presently endure are not worth comparing with the glory to be revealed in us. | For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed toward us. |
Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword. | Don’t think that I came to send peace on the earth. I didn’t come to send peace, but a sword. |
And not only that, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we realize that suffering develops perseverance, and perseverance produces character, and character produces hope. | Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope. |
