A wholesome tongue is a tree of life: but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit.The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.
The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.The tongue of the righteous is choice silver, but the heart of the wicked is of little value.

(They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.)
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.
He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart; whose tongue utters no slander, who does no wrong to a neighbor, and casts no slur on others.
My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’
For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it.”
The words of a wise man's mouth are gracious; but the lips of a fool will swallow up himself.Words from the mouth of the wise are gracious, but fools are consumed by their own lips.
The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts.
The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.A person’s riches may ransom their life, but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes.
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the Lord pondereth the hearts.A person may think their own ways are right, but the Lord weighs the heart.
Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him.
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.
