- How much better to get wisdom than gold!
To get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver. - Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
- Only be very careful to observe the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, and to walk in all his ways and to keep his commandments and to cling to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.
- There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?
- The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me,
because the Lord has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor;
he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives,
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound. - The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth. - Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
- But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.
- Gracious words are like a honeycomb,
sweetness to the soul and health to the body. - See, we are going up to Jerusalem. And the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death and deliver him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.
- And that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love.
For you will render to a man
according to his work. - To do righteousness and justice
is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. - It is a snare to say rashly, “It is holy,”
and to reflect only after making vows. - For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned.
- He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength. - Do not toil to acquire wealth;
be discerning enough to desist. - Do not swerve to the right or to the left;
turn your foot away from evil. - He has told you, O man, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God? - Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,
when it is in your power to do it. - Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory,
for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness! - Is not this the fast that I choose:
to loose the bonds of wickedness,
to undo the straps of the yoke,
to let the oppressed go free,
and to break every yoke? - I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.
- Everyone also to whom God has given wealth and possessions and power to enjoy them, and to accept his lot and rejoice in his toil—this is the gift of God.
- So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.
- For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
