| One who forgives a misdeed fosters friendship, but he who divulges it separates good friends. | Love prospers when a fault is forgiven, but dwelling on it separates close friends. |
| Bless those who persecute you; bless them and do not curse them. | Bless those who persecute you. Don’t curse them; pray that God will bless them. |
| Indeed, the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. | The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. |
| However, to those who did accept him and who believed in his name he granted the power to become children of God. | But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. |
| And now it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. The life I live now in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself up for me. | My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. |
| Everyone who hears these words of mine and acts in accordance with them will be like a wise man who constructed his house on a rock foundation. | Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. |
| Wait quietly for the Lord and be patient until he comes. Do not fret over the man who prospers because of his evil schemes. | Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. |
| The future bodes well for him who is generous in helping those in need and who conducts his affairs with justice. | Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly. |
| Have no fear of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, fear the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna. | Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell. |
| Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. | Our help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. |
| But I say to you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. | But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! |
