- The precepts of the Lord are right,
causing the heart to rejoice.
The commands of the Lord are clear,
giving light to the eyes. - Do not love the world
or what is in the world.
If anyone does love the world,
the love of the Father is not in him. - And opens the eyes of those who cannot see.
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;
the Lord loves the righteous. - In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and barren, and darkness covered the abyss while the Spirit of God hovered over the waters.
- The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. - The vine has withered;
the fig tree droops.
The pomegranate, the palm, and the apple tree—
all the trees of the field have dried up.
And the joy of the people
has also withered away. - The hope of the righteous brings them joy,
but the expectations of the wicked are frustrated. - Wives, be subject to your husbands as you are to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, just as Christ is the head of the Church, the body of which he is the Savior.
- The heavens were made by the word of the Lord,
and all their host by the breath of his mouth. - “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “the one who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
- The tongue of the just man is like pure silver;
the heart of the wicked is without worth. - And take the helmet of salvation as well as the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
- The righteous is remembered with blessings,
but the name of the wicked fades away. - I am confident that I will behold the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living. - The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
- Blessings are showered on the head of the righteous,
but sorrow will cover the face of the wicked. - Whoever denies the Son
does not have the Father,
but whoever acknowledges the Son
has the Father also. - The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the Law.
- Jesus replied,
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father
except through me.” - Preferable is the little that the righteous possess
than the great wealth of the wicked.
For the power of the wicked will be overcome,
but the Lord protects the righteous. - Now this Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
- The lips of the righteous utter words of kindness,
but the mouth of the wicked knows only how to pervert. - The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has been unable to overcome it. - I came from the Father
and have come into the world.
Now I am leaving the world
and returning to the Father. - Blessed is the man
who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
nor stand in the way of sinners,
nor sit in the company of scoffers.
