- When I fed them, they were satisfied;
they were satisfied, and their heart was proud;
therefore they forgot me. - Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” And they cast lots to divide his clothing.
- Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made loincloths for themselves.
- When they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken; and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God with boldness.
- But those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength,
they shall mount up with wings like eagles,
they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint. - Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
- Come now, let us argue it out,
says the Lord:
though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be like snow;
though they are red like crimson,
they shall become like wool. - Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
- But when they saw him walking on the sea, they thought it was a ghost and cried out; for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.”
- They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and after twisting some thorns into a crown, they put it on his head. They put a reed in his right hand and knelt before him and mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
- For the customs of the peoples are false:
a tree from the forest is cut down,
and worked with an ax by the hands of an artisan;
people deck it with silver and gold;
they fasten it with hammer and nails
so that it cannot move.
Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field,
and they cannot speak;
they have to be carried,
for they cannot walk.
Do not be afraid of them,
for they cannot do evil,
nor is it in them to do good. - And whenever you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces so as to show others that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward.
- When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words.
- Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
- Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off.
- On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.
- Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
- Your decrees are my heritage forever;
they are the joy of my heart. - Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
- Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil.
- Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!
- As they came from their mother's womb, so they shall go again, naked as they came; they shall take nothing for their toil, which they may carry away with their hands.
- They answered, “Believe on the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
- Without counsel, plans go wrong,
but with many advisers they succeed. - The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.
