- Jesus replied,
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
no one can see the kingdom of God
without being born from above.” - He said to them, “Then are you also without understanding? Do you not realize that whatever goes into a person from outside cannot defile him, since it enters not into the heart but into the stomach and is discharged into the sewer?” Thus, he pronounced all foods clean.
- I will make haste and not delay
to observe your precepts. - The tongue of the just man is like pure silver;
the heart of the wicked is without worth. - Moses remained with the Lord for forty days and forty nights without eating bread or drinking water. And he wrote the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments, on the tablets.
- Jesus said,
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
no one can enter the kingdom of God
unless he is born of water and the Spirit.” - Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them can fall to the ground without your Father’s knowledge. Even the hairs on your head have all been counted. So do not be afraid; you are worth far more than any number of sparrows.
- The blessing of the Lord is what brings wealth,
and our toil adds nothing to it. - All day long the godless man continues to covet,
whereas the righteous man gives unsparingly. - It is better to have little and be righteous
than to acquire great riches with injustice. - At the appointed time, while we were still helpless, Christ died for the ungodly.
- Welcome anyone whose faith is weak, but do not get into arguments about doubts.
- So shall my word be
that issues forth from my mouth.
It will not return to me unfulfilled,
but it will accomplish my purpose
and achieve what I sent it forth to do. - One who despairs should have the support of his friends
even if he has forsaken the fear of the Almighty. - Such godly sorrow results in repentance that leads to salvation and causes no regret, whereas worldly sorrow produces death.
- O God, you are my God,
for whom I have been searching earnestly.
My soul yearns for you
and my body thirsts for you,
like the earth when it is parched,
arid and without water. - So Christ, having been offered once to take away the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to bring salvation to those who are eagerly waiting for him.
- The powerful suffer want and go hungry,
but those who seek the Lord want for no good thing. - Then Jesus said to him,
“You have come to believe
because you have seen me.
Blessed are those who have not seen
and yet have come to believe.” - Make every effort to present yourself before God as one who is worthy of his approval, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, but who imparts the word of truth without any alteration.
- I am the vine,
you are the branches.
Whoever abides in me, and I in him,
will bear much fruit.
Apart from me you can do nothing. - In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and barren, and darkness covered the abyss while the Spirit of God hovered over the waters.
- Bring the tithes in full into the treasury
so that there may be food in my house.
Put me thus to the test,
says the Lord of hosts,
and see if I will not open
the windows of heaven for you
and pour down blessings upon you
without measure. - Do not succumb to the love of money, but be content with what you have, for God has said, “I will never forsake you or abandon you.”
- Therefore, you have no excuse, whoever you may be, when you pass judgment on others. For in judging others you condemn yourself, since you are doing the same things.
