- Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace;
When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive. - He who is slow to wrath has great understanding,
But he who is impulsive exalts folly. - Happy is the man who finds wisdom,
And the man who gains understanding. - For in much wisdom is much grief,
And he who increases knowledge increases sorrow. - The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge,
But fools despise wisdom and instruction. - So shall the knowledge of wisdom be to your soul;
If you have found it, there is a prospect,
And your hope will not be cut off. - The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom,
And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. - I have taught you in the way of wisdom;
I have led you in right paths. - Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!
- He who walks with wise men will be wise,
But the companion of fools will be destroyed. - Get wisdom! Get understanding!
Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth. - The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
A good understanding have all those who do His commandments.
His praise endures forever. - The words of a wise man’s mouth are gracious,
But the lips of a fool shall swallow him up. - That their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ.
- My son, if your heart is wise,
My heart will rejoice—indeed, I myself. - One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind.
- The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. - The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor,
But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered. - A fool vents all his feelings,
But a wise man holds them back. - A fool’s lips enter into contention,
And his mouth calls for blows. - A fool’s wrath is known at once,
But a prudent man covers shame. - Turn at my rebuke;
Surely I will pour out my spirit on you;
I will make my words known to you. - The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice,
And he who begets a wise child will delight in him. - Many shall be purified, made white, and refined, but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand.
- A fool despises his father’s instruction,
But he who receives correction is prudent.
