- But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.
- I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.

but deliver us from evil:

cease to do evil. - The fear of the Lord is to hate evil:
pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way,
and the froward mouth, do I hate. - Depart from evil, and do good;
seek peace, and pursue it. - A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
- For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
- Keep thy tongue from evil,
and thy lips from speaking guile. - Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
- Turn not to the right hand nor to the left:
remove thy foot from evil. - Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother: And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.
- Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
- Because sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.
- Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
- Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil:
but to the counsellors of peace is joy. - Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil.
- For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
- Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith the Lord.
