Avoid evil (2/4)

  • Put away from you crooked speech,
    and put devious talk far from you.
  • Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.
  • Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.
  • Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
  • Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
  • Be not wise in your own eyes;
    fear the Lord, and turn away from evil.
    It will be healing to your flesh
    and refreshment to your bones.
  • Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.
  • The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed and bring me safely into his heavenly kingdom. To him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
  • For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
    and his ears are open to their prayer.
    But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.
  • And he said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
  • Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
  • Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man!
  • Even though I walk
    through the valley of the shadow of death,
    I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.
  • Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.
  • If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!
  • For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.
  • As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.
  • The Lord will keep you from all evil;
    he will keep your life.
    The Lord will keep
    your going out and your coming in
    from this time forth and forevermore.
  • For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.
  • Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him;
    fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,
    over the man who carries out evil devices!
  • He who walks blamelessly and does what is right
    and speaks truth in his heart;
    who does not slander with his tongue
    and does no evil to his neighbor,
    nor takes up a reproach against his friend.
  • Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”
  • Thus says the Lord of hosts, Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another, do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, or the poor, and let none of you devise evil against another in your heart.
  • For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
  • For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

Then the Lord God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us in knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand and take also of the tree of life and eat, and live forever—” therefore the Lord God sent him out from the garden of Eden to work the ground from which he was taken.
