- The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it. - For the word of the Lord holds true,
and we can trust everything he does. - Their ways are futile and foolish.
They cut down a tree, and a craftsman carves an idol.
They decorate it with gold and silver
and then fasten it securely with hammer and nails
so it won’t fall over.
Their gods are like
helpless scarecrows in a cucumber field!
They cannot speak,
and they need to be carried because they cannot walk.
Do not be afraid of such gods,
for they can neither harm you nor do you any good. - God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.
- So I tell you, every sin and blasphemy can be forgiven—except blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which will never be forgiven.
- The teaching of your word gives light,
so even the simple can understand. - Tainted wealth has no lasting value,
but right living can save your life. - That is why I can never stop praising you;

but right living can save you from death. - Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.

those who love to talk will reap the consequences. - Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.
- No one lights a lamp and then covers it with a bowl or hides it under a bed. A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light can be seen by all who enter the house.

He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me. - A gossip goes around telling secrets,
but those who are trustworthy can keep a confidence. - Those who control their tongue will have a long life;
opening your mouth can ruin everything. - Getting wisdom is the wisest thing you can do!
And whatever else you do, develop good judgment. - I tell you, you can pray for anything, and if you believe that you’ve received it, it will be yours.

There is one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity—the man Christ Jesus. - Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil.
- And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.
- Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me.”
- But those who do what is right come to the light so others can see that they are doing what God wants.
