- You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them. Yet you don’t have what you want because you don’t ask God for it.
- So we can say with confidence,
“The Lord is my helper,
so I will have no fear.
What can mere people do to me?” - Do all that you can to live in peace with everyone.
- Can he walk on hot coals
and not blister his feet? - Fathers can give their sons an inheritance of houses and wealth,
but only the Lord can give an understanding wife. - How can a young person stay pure?
By obeying your word. - We can make our plans,
but the Lord determines our steps. - No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit.
- Don’t team up with those who are unbelievers. How can righteousness be a partner with wickedness? How can light live with darkness?
- You can make many plans,
but the Lord’s purpose will prevail. - For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.
- I thirst for God, the living God.
When can I go and stand before him? - Giving a gift can open doors;
it gives access to important people! - Seek the Lord while you can find him.
Call on him now while he is near. - You can pray for anything, and if you have faith, you will receive it.
- I can never escape from your Spirit!
I can never get away from your presence!
If I go up to heaven, you are there;
if I go down to the grave, you are there. - The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it. - For the word of the Lord holds true,
and we can trust everything he does. - The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear.
What can mere people do to me? - The teaching of your word gives light,
so even the simple can understand. - Tainted wealth has no lasting value,
but right living can save your life. - That is why I can never stop praising you;
I declare your glory all day long. - Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed.
- Who can find a virtuous and capable wife?
She is more precious than rubies. - “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.”
