Gift of life (2/4)

  • Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.
  • Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.
  • For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.
  • And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken.
  • For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.
  • Humility is the fear of the Lord;
its wages are riches and honor and life.
  • For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.
  • Listen, my son, accept what I say,
and the years of your life will be many.
  • My son, do not forget my teaching,
but keep my commands in your heart,
for they will prolong your life many years
and bring you peace and prosperity.
  • For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
  • So then, banish anxiety from your heart
and cast off the troubles of your body,
for youth and vigor are meaningless.
  • For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it.
  • Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on them.
  • And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done.
  • This is what I have observed to be good: that it is appropriate for a person to eat, to drink and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given them—for this is their lot.
  • For those who find me find life
and receive favor from the Lord.
  • Do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.
  • For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
  • For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
  • Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
  • Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.
  • By day the Lord directs his love,
at night his song is with me—
a prayer to the God of my life.
  • Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
  • Whoever pursues righteousness and love
    finds life, prosperity and honor.
  • The Lord is my light and my salvation—
    whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?

A person’s riches may ransom their life,
but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes.
