| But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. | But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. |
| The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. | The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. |

| So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. | The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. | The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. |
| You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. | For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. |

| Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. | Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. |
| Give proper recognition to those widows who are really in need. | Honour widows that are widows indeed. |

| Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil. | Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil. |
| Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord. | Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord. |
| Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. | Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. |
| If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? | But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? |
