- For in much wisdom is much grief:
and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow. - A wise son maketh a glad father:
but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother. - He is despised and rejected of men;
a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief:
and we hid as it were our faces from him;
he was despised, and we esteemed him not. - For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
- Surely he hath borne our griefs,
and carried our sorrows:
yet we did esteem him stricken,
smitten of God, and afflicted. - The wise in heart will receive commandments:

and repenteth him of the evil. - Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.
- For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.
