I AM THE VINE (4/4)

  • Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.
  • My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.
  • In God, whose word I praise—
    in God I trust and am not afraid.
    What can mere mortals do to me?
  • But God has helped me to this very day; so I stand here and testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen— that the Messiah would suffer and, as the first to rise from the dead, would bring the message of light to his own people and to the Gentiles.
  • I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits,
    and in his word I put my hope.
  • Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?
  • If you fully obey the Lord your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.
  • A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
  • Though an army besiege me,
    my heart will not fear;
    though war break out against me,
    even then I will be confident.
  • But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.
  • Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
  • The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.
    What can mere mortals do to me?
  • Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword.
  • Before a word is on my tongue
    you, Lord, know it completely.
  • When I said, “My foot is slipping,”
    your unfailing love, Lord, supported me.
  • These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
  • Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
    for I have put my trust in you.
    Show me the way I should go,
    for to you I entrust my life.
  • Yes, my soul, find rest in God;
    my hope comes from him.
  • But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.”
  • Praise the Lord, my soul;
    all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
  • I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith.
  • Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
  • I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
  • But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.
  • “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.

Bible verse of the day

See, the enemy is puffed up;
his desires are not upright—
but the righteous person will live by his faithfulness.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.Next verse!With image
