| Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. | Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth: it is better for you that I depart. For if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you, whereas if I go, I will send him to you. |
| For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. | You need to be steadfast if you want to do the will of God and receive what he has promised. |

| And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. | Therefore, I say to you: ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. |
| And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? | Now who is going to harm you if you are eager to do what is right? |
| But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. | But to those of you who are listening to me, I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. |
| If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. | If you abide in me and my words abide in you, you may ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. |
| Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. | Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled; be not afraid. |
| A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. | I give you a new commandment: love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you should also love one another. |
| And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. | Even when you reach old age I will still be the same. Even when your hair is gray, I will still carry you. I have made you and I will uphold you; I will carry you and save you. |
| For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. | For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. |
| Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live? | Do I derive any pleasure from the death of the wicked? asks the Lord God. Would I not rather rejoice to see them turn away from their wickedness and live? |
| A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. | I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you. I will remove from your body a heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh in its place. |
| And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house. | I did not hesitate to tell you what was for your benefit as I proclaimed the word to you and taught you publicly as well as from house to house. |
| Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. | “Peace be with you,” Jesus said to them again. “As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” |
| So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. | So shall my word be that issues forth from my mouth. It will not return to me unfulfilled, but it will accomplish my purpose and achieve what I sent it forth to do. |
| That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed. | In that way, I can come to you in joy, if God so wills, and be refreshed together with you. |
| For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. | For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. |
| I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. | No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you will all perish as they did. |
| These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. | I have told you these things so that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete. |
| And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever. | And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever. |
| In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. | In my Father’s house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? |
| Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. | You have already been cleansed by the word I have spoken to you. |
| And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. | Then he said to all who were with him, “Anyone who wishes to follow me must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me.” |
| For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. | For I know full well the plans I have for you, plans for your welfare and not for your misfortune, plans that will offer you a future filled with hope. |
| Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. | You did not choose me. Rather, I chose you. And I appointed you to go out and bear fruit, fruit that will remain, so that the Father may give you whatever you ask him in my name. |
