- Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.
- Let those who are wise understand these things.
Let those with discernment listen carefully.
The paths of the Lord are true and right,
and righteous people live by walking in them.
But in those paths sinners stumble and fall. - So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.
- Let my teaching fall on you like rain;
let my speech settle like dew.
Let my words fall like rain on tender grass,
like gentle showers on young plants. - So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.
- And do everything with love.
- Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.
- You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name.
- Don’t let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and say, “Life is not pleasant anymore.”
- Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
- And you must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.
- Sing to the Lord, for he has done wonderful things.
Make known his praise around the world. - Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.”
- So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.
- Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.
- In the blink of an eye wealth disappears,
for it will sprout wings
and fly away like an eagle. - Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.
- The man answered, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
- Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.
- Mark out a straight path for your feet;
stay on the safe path. - But I will be merciful only if you stop your evil thoughts and deeds and start treating each other with justice; only if you stop exploiting foreigners, orphans, and widows; only if you stop your murdering; and only if you stop harming yourselves by worshiping idols. Then I will let you stay in this land that I gave to your ancestors to keep forever.
- Jesus replied, “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.”
- On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me!”
- For the Scriptures say,
“If you want to enjoy life
and see many happy days,
keep your tongue from speaking evil
and your lips from telling lies.
Turn away from evil and do good.
Search for peace, and work to maintain it.” - So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
