- One thing I ask from the Lord,
this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple. - Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.
- Do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes.
- Humility is the fear of the Lord;
its wages are riches and honor and life. - Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.
- Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
- Listen, my son, accept what I say,
and the years of your life will be many. - The soothing tongue is a tree of life,
but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit. - Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life. - Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”
- For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.
- It is a trap to dedicate something rashly
and only later to consider one’s vows. - For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.
- A person’s riches may ransom their life,
but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes. - Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?
- Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
- When times are good, be happy; but when times are bad, consider this: God has made the one as well as the other. Therefore, no one can discover anything about their future.
- I will never forget your precepts,
for by them you have preserved my life. - As the deer pants for streams of water,
so my soul pants for you, my God. - Whoever heeds discipline shows the way to life,
but whoever ignores correction leads others astray. - Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
- Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
- But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”
- For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
- It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.
