Like a city that is broken into and without walls So is a person who has no self-control over his spirit. | Whoever has no rule over his own spirit Is like a city broken down, without walls. |
He has told you, mortal one, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justice, to love kindness, And to walk humbly with your God? | He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God? |
The wicked borrows and does not pay back, But the righteous is gracious and gives. | The wicked borrows and does not repay, But the righteous shows mercy and gives. |
All day long he is craving, While the righteous gives and does not hold back. | He covets greedily all day long, But the righteous gives and does not spare. |

A person of too many friends comes to ruin, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. | A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. |
Nevertheless, as for you individually, each husband is to love his own wife the same as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband. | Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. |
Do not envy a violent person, And do not choose any of his ways. Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose trust is the Lord. For he will be like a tree planted by the water That extends its roots by a stream, And does not fear when the heat comes; But its leaves will be green, And it will not be anxious in a year of drought, Nor cease to yield fruit. | Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord.
