- And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
- So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
- A man has joy by the answer of his mouth,
And a word spoken in due season, how good it is! - But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
- Every way of a man is right in his own eyes,
But the Lord weighs the hearts. - Praise the Lord!
Blessed is the man who fears the Lord,
Who delights greatly in His commandments. - Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.
- It is honorable for a man to stop striving,
Since any fool can start a quarrel. - Of how much more value then is a man than a sheep? Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.
- A fool’s wrath is known at once,
But a prudent man covers shame. - A good man deals graciously and lends;
He will guide his affairs with discretion. - Now it happened that He went through the grainfields on the Sabbath; and as they went His disciples began to pluck the heads of grain. And the Pharisees said to Him, “Look, why do they do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?”
But He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and hungry, he and those with him: how he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the showbread, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and also gave some to those who were with him?”
And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.” - Therefore let it be known to you, brethren, that through this Man is preached to you the forgiveness of sins; and by Him everyone who believes is justified from all things from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.
- A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself;
The simple pass on and are punished. - Let not mercy and truth forsake you;
Bind them around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart,
And so find favor and high esteem
In the sight of God and man. - Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.
- Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects;
Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty. - Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression,
But a good word makes it glad. - For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.
- With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful;
With a blameless man You will show Yourself blameless. - A man who has friends must himself be friendly,
But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. - Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.
- And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile a man.”
- Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.
- So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
