Mary, mother of God (2/4) “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents. Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing! You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.” Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.” These are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame.
As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
