Shalt (2/4)

  • I am the Lord, your God,
    who brought you out of the land of Egypt.
    You know no God but me,
    nor any savior other than me.
  • With his feathers he will shelter you,
    and you will take refuge under his wings;
    his faithfulness serves as a protective shield.
  • You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.
  • Hear, O Israel, the Lord, our God, is Lord alone. You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.
  • What then should we say? That the Law is sinful? Absolutely not! Yet if it had not been for the Law, I would not have known what sin was. I would not have known what covet is if the Law had not said, “You shall not covet.”
  • He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.”
  • Jesus replied, “If you wish to be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
  • Remember your Creator in the days of your youth
    before the bad times come
    and the years draw near when you will say,
    “I take no pleasure in them”.
  • You have heard that it was said of old: ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that anyone who looks with lust at a woman has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
  • Do not let kindness and fidelity leave you;
    fasten them around your neck
    and inscribe them on the tablet of your heart.
    Then you will gain favor and a good name
    in the sight of God and man.
  • You shall observe the Sabbath by keeping it holy, as the Lord, your God, has commanded you. You are to labor on six days, doing all of your work then. The seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord, your God. You shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your ox, nor your ass, nor your cattle, nor even the foreigner living in your town. Thus your manservant and maidservant can rest as well.
  • I myself did not know him,
    but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me,
    ‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest
    is the one who is to baptize with the Holy Spirit.’
  • Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath in honor of the Lord your God. You shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male slave, nor your female slave, nor your animals, nor the foreigner who dwells with you. The Lord made the heavens and the earth and the seas and that which is in them in six days, but he rested the seventh day. Thus, the Lord blessed the Sabbath and declared it to be sacred.
  • When you pass through the waters,
    I will be with you;
    nor will the waters engulf you.
    When you walk through fire,
    you will not be burned;
    the flames will not consume you.
  • If your brother should sin, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. Even if he wrongs you seven times a day, and comes back to you seven times to say, ‘I am sorry,’ you must forgive him.
  • You shall obey his statutes and the commandments that I give you today, so that all may go well with you and your children after you, and that you may live long in the land that the Lord, your God, has given you for all time.
  • If you refrain from traveling on the Sabbath
    and from engaging in your own interests on my holy day,
    if you call the Sabbath a day of joy
    and regard the Lord’s holy day as honorable,
    if you honor it by not going your own way,
    serving your own interests,
    or attending to your own affairs;
    then you will find true happiness in the Lord,
    and I will enable you to ride
    upon the heights of the earth.
    I will nourish you with the heritage of your father Jacob,
    for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
  • No weapon used against you will prevail,
    and you will refute every accusation
    that is raised in court against you.
    This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
    their vindication from me, says the Lord.
  • Return and tell Hezekiah, the leader of my people: Thus says the Lord, the God of David, your father: I have heard, I have seen your tears. I will heal you today, and the day after tomorrow you will go up to the temple of the Lord.
  • If you heed the voice of the Lord, your God, and you carefully observe all of the commandments that I have given you today, then the Lord, your God, will lift you up above all the other nations upon the earth.
  • You might say to yourself, “How can we know that the Lord did not speak the message?” If what the prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord is not true and it does not happen, then the message was not proclaimed by the Lord. The prophet has spoken presumptuously, you should not fear him.
  • I shall forgive them for their wicked deeds,
    and I shall remember their sins no more.
  • You shall be holy, for I, the Lord, am holy. I have chosen you from among all people that you shall be mine.
  • For it is written,
    “As I live, says the Lord,
    every knee shall bow before me,
    and every tongue shall give praise to God.”
  • For this reason
    a man shall leave his father and mother
    and be joined to his wife,
    and the two shall become one flesh.

You shall observe my commandments and obey them. I am the Lord.

Bible verse of the day

However, if we confess our sins,
he who is faithful and just
will forgive our sins
and cleanse us from all wrongdoing.
