| And the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. | God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. |
| Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to edification. | Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up. |
| Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures. | He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created. |
