| I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives, and also that every man should eat and drink and enjoy the good of all his labor—it is the gift of God. | I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. |
| For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. | For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. |

| Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have? | Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have. |
| Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. | Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. |
| Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. | In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. |
| You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the Lord your God chastens you. | Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you. |

| Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband. | However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. |

| For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age. | For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age. |
| Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. | Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently. But watch yourselves, or you also may be tempted. |
| If I say, “My foot slips,” Your mercy, O Lord, will hold me up. | When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your unfailing love, Lord, supported me. |
| Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. | The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. |
| And the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. | God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. |
| Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident. | Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. |
| I, even I, am He who comforts you. Who are you that you should be afraid Of a man who will die, And of the son of a man who will be made like grass? | I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are you that you fear mere mortals, human beings who are but grass. |
| A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. | A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. |
| Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures. | He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created. |

| What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? | What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? |
