Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. | You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. |
As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man. | As water reflects the face, so one’s life reflects the heart. |
|
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. | In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. |
As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. | As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. |
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. | Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. |
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. | For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. |
So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was intreated of us. | So we fasted and petitioned our God about this, and he answered our prayer. |
So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. | Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. |
Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. | Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. |
Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. | As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. |
Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him. | As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him. |
Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. | Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. |
As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. | As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. |
Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. | Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” |
So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. | So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” |
Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. | Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. |
For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. | For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. |
So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. | Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God. |
That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. | So that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. |
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. | Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. |
As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. | Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. |
Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. | This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. |
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. | For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. |
Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the Lord, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken. | Seek good, not evil, that you may live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you, just as you say he is. |
And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. | We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him. |
