In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness. | In You, Lord, I have taken refuge; Let me never be put to shame; In Your righteousness rescue me. |
O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. | Taste and see that the Lord is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! |
|
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? | For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? |
Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him. Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord. | You shall not hate your fellow countryman in your heart; you may certainly rebuke your neighbor, but you are not to incur sin because of him. You shall not take vengeance, nor hold any grudge against the sons of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself; I am the Lord. |
Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away. | Now the brother or sister of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position; but the rich person is to glory in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away. |
So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. | So Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him. |
But when they shall lead you, and deliver you up, take no thought beforehand what ye shall speak, neither do ye premeditate: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye: for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Ghost. | And when they arrest you and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say, but say whatever is given you at that time; for you are not the ones speaking, but it is the Holy Spirit. |
Honour widows that are widows indeed. | Honor widows who are actually widows. |
Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live? | “Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked,” declares the Lord God, “rather than that he would turn from his ways and live?” |
Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. | You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. |
Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another. | Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor. |
Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen. | Little children, guard yourselves from idols. |
Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry; And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless. | You shall not oppress any widow or orphan. If you oppress him at all, and if he does cry out to Me, I will assuredly hear his cry; and My anger will be kindled, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children fatherless. |
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. | Blessed is the person who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! |
I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart. | I delight to do Your will, my God; Your Law is within my heart. |
Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil. | Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean; Remove the evil of your deeds from My sight. Stop doing evil. |
The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. | The Lord your God is in your midst, A victorious warrior. He will rejoice over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy. |
A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished. | A prudent person sees evil and hides himself; But the naive proceed, and pay the penalty. |
Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; and the years of thy life shall be many. | Listen, my son, and accept my sayings, And the years of your life will be many. |
But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. | But I say to you, take no oath at all, neither by heaven, for it is the throne of God, nor by the earth, for it is the footstool of His feet, nor by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. |
So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was intreated of us. | So we fasted and sought our God concerning this matter, and He listened to our pleading. |
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. | Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. |
For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth. | Yet as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, And at the last, He will take His stand on the earth. |
Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. | Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken. |
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? | Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? |
