For I long to visit you so I can bring you some spiritual gift that will help you grow strong in the Lord. All who declare that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God. | Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. |
Oh, that they would always have hearts like this, that they might fear me and obey all my commands! If they did, they and their descendants would prosper forever. | O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! |
And God has given us his Spirit as proof that we live in him and he in us. | Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. |
You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. | And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. |
In that wonderful day you will sing: “Thank the Lord! Praise his name! Tell the nations what he has done. Let them know how mighty he is!” | And in that day shall ye say, Praise the Lord, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted. |
Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. | By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. |
God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. | In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. |
Jesus responded, “Didn’t I tell you that you would see God’s glory if you believe?” | Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God? |
God chose things despised by the world, things counted as nothing at all, and used them to bring to nothing what the world considers important. I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. | That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love. |
This is how we know if they have the Spirit of God: If a person claiming to be a prophet acknowledges that Jesus Christ came in a real body, that person has the Spirit of God. But if someone claims to be a prophet and does not acknowledge the truth about Jesus, that person is not from God. Such a person has the spirit of the Antichrist, which you heard is coming into the world and indeed is already here. | Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. |
Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. | Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. |
I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. | For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures. |
And do everything with love. | Let all your things be done with charity. |
See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are! But the people who belong to this world don’t recognize that we are God’s children because they don’t know him. | Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. |
