- But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil,
to blot out their name from the earth. - Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent,
and discerning if they hold their tongues. - A person’s riches may ransom their life,
but the poor cannot respond to threatening rebukes. - Words from the mouth of the wise are gracious,
but fools are consumed by their own lips. - And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.
- The integrity of the upright guides them,
but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. - Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely,
who conduct their affairs with justice. - Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
- Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
- The heart is deceitful above all things
and beyond cure. Who can understand it?
“I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind,
to reward each person according to their conduct,
according to what their deeds deserve.” - Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper,
but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. - This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God’s servants, who give their full time to governing.
- This is what I have observed to be good: that it is appropriate for a person to eat, to drink and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labor under the sun during the few days of life God has given them—for this is their lot.
- But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.”

- Whoever loves money never has enough;
whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income.
This too is meaningless. - Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.
- Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
- Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
- As goods increase,
so do those who consume them.
And what benefit are they to the owners
except to feast their eyes on them?
