- You must not covet your neighbor’s house. You must not covet your neighbor’s wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor.
- But in your great mercy, you did not destroy them completely or abandon them forever. What a gracious and merciful God you are!
- The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right;
his ears are open to their cries for help. - And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.
- For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. - For you, a thousand years are as a passing day,
as brief as a few night hours. - Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.
- God blesses those whose hearts are pure,
for they will see God. - Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged;
parents are the pride of their children. - Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people.
- So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
- Before the mountains were born,
before you gave birth to the earth and the world,
from beginning to end, you are God. - God blesses those who are persecuted for doing right,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs. - But you, O Lord, are a shield around me;
you are my glory, the one who holds my head high. - But many who are the greatest now will be least important then, and those who seem least important now will be the greatest then.
- For the law was not intended for people who do what is right. It is for people who are lawless and rebellious, who are ungodly and sinful, who consider nothing sacred and defile what is holy, who kill their father or mother or commit other murders. The law is for people who are sexually immoral, or who practice homosexuality, or are slave traders, liars, promise breakers, or who do anything else that contradicts the wholesome teaching that comes from the glorious Good News entrusted to me by our blessed God.
- You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is good for you. You say, “I am allowed to do anything”—but not everything is beneficial.
- Joyful are people of integrity,
who follow the instructions of the Lord. - Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.
- The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God.
- Take care of any widow who has no one else to care for her.
- That’s why those who are still under the control of their sinful nature can never please God.
- If I could speak all the languages of earth and of angels, but didn’t love others, I would only be a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
- Don’t envy violent people
or copy their ways.
Such wicked people are detestable to the Lord,
but he offers his friendship to the godly. - The Lord detests lying lips,
but he delights in those who tell the truth.
