YOUR SPIRIT (2/4)

  • A wholesome tongue is a tree of life,
but an undisciplined tongue crushes the spirit.
  • In the same way, even the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with sighs that cannot be put into words.
  • If you, then, despite your evil nature, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!
  • For the desires of the flesh are opposed to the Spirit, and those of the Spirit are opposed to the flesh. They are in conflict with one another, so that you cannot do what you want.
  • Hence, I advise you to be guided by the Spirit, so that you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
  • And the one who searches hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.
  • Those who live according to the flesh fix their attention on the things of the flesh, while those who live according to the Spirit set their thoughts on spiritual things.
  • And take the helmet of salvation as well as the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
  • Do you not realize that you are God’s temple, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
  • This is how we can be certain
    that we abide in him
and that he abides in us:
he has given us a share in his Spirit.
  • I myself did not know him,
but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me,
‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest
is the one who is to baptize with the Holy Spirit.’
  • I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you. I will remove from your body a heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh in its place.
  • My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
a contrite and humble heart, O God,
    you will not spurn.
  • I will put my Spirit in you and make you follow my statutes and my ordinances.
  • In all of your prayers and entreaties, pray always in the Spirit. To that end, keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints.
  • And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God who has marked you with his seal for the day of redemption.
  • Stay awake and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit is indeed willing, but the flesh is weak.
  • Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which separated and came to rest on each one of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages, as the Spirit enabled them to do so.
  • As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit descended upon them just as it had upon us at the beginning.
  • Jesus said,
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
no one can enter the kingdom of God
unless he is born of water and the Spirit.”
  • This is the Lord’s message to Zerubbabel: Not by force, nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts.
  • Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days, where he was tempted by the devil. During that time he ate nothing, and at the end of it he was famished.
  • I ask that from the riches of his glory he may grant through his Spirit that you be strengthened with power in your inner being and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.
  • Do not be lacking in zeal, but serve the Lord with spiritual fervor.
  • My soul longs for you throughout the night,
and my spirit within me seeks your presence.
For when your judgments are revealed to the earth,
the inhabitants of the world learn to practice justice.

And we are witnesses to these things, as is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.
