- The Lord is my light and my salvation—
so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
so why should I tremble? - You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name.
- “Can anyone hide from me in a secret place?
Am I not everywhere in all the heavens and earth?”
says the Lord. - Search for the Lord and for his strength;
continually seek him. - Commit your actions to the Lord,
and your plans will succeed. - How joyful are those who fear the Lord—
all who follow his ways! - The Lord will work out his plans for my life—
for your faithful love, O Lord, endures forever.
Don’t abandon me, for you made me. - For who is God except the Lord?
Who but our God is a solid rock? - Unless the Lord builds a house,
the work of the builders is wasted.
Unless the Lord protects a city,
guarding it with sentries will do no good. - Arise, O Lord!
Punish the wicked, O God!
Do not ignore the helpless! - Instead, let us test and examine our ways.
Let us turn back to the Lord. - Now this is what the Lord says to the family of Israel:
“Come back to me and live!” - We can make our plans,
but the Lord determines our steps. - Fear of the Lord teaches wisdom;
humility precedes honor. - Search for the Lord and for his strength;
continually seek him. - The Lord directs the steps of the godly.
He delights in every detail of their lives. - O Israel, my faithless people,
come home to me again,
for I am merciful.
I will not be angry with you forever. - Seek the Lord while you can find him.
Call on him now while he is near. - For who is God except the Lord?
Who but our God is a solid rock? - Rescue me, O Lord, from liars
and from all deceitful people. - The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear.
What can mere people do to me? - Let all that I am praise the Lord;
with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. - The Lord makes some poor and others rich;
he brings some down and lifts others up. - And the Lord our God commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear him so he can continue to bless us and preserve our lives, as he has done to this day.
