Ye (2/4)

  • Once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.
  • Continue in all of the ways that the Lord, your God, has commanded you. Continue in them so that you may live and prosper and that you may long dwell on the land of your inheritance.
  • And if you do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do as much.
  • Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is close at hand.
  • Seek good and not evil,
    so that you may live.
Then the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you
    as you claim he is.
  • Seek the Lord,
all you humble of the land
    who obey his commands.
    Seek righteousness, seek humility;
then perhaps you may find shelter
on the day of the Lord’s anger.
  • I give you a new commandment:
    love one another.
Just as I have loved you,
so you should also love one another.
  • When they arrest you and bring you to trial, do not be concerned beforehand about what you are to say. Simply say whatever is given to you when that time comes, for it will not be you who speak but the Holy Spirit.
  • You will not add to what I command you, nor will you take away from it, so that you might observe the commandments of the Lord, your God, that I am giving you.
  • Then Jesus said to those Jews who did believe in him,
“If you remain faithful to my word,
you will truly be my disciples.
    You will know the truth,
and the truth will set you free.”
  • And let the peace of Christ reign in your hearts, because it was for this that you were called together in one body. Always be thankful.
  • Yet even if you should suffer for doing what is right, you are thereby blessed. Have no fear of others, and refuse to be intimidated by them.
  • Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have received from God, and that you are not your own? You have been purchased at a price. Therefore, glorify God in your body.
  • Whatever you do, do it wholeheartedly, as if you were doing it for the Lord and not for others, since you know that you will receive from the Lord an inheritance as your reward for you are serving the Lord Christ.
  • Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you waverers.
  • I write these things to you
who believe in the name of the Son of God
    so that you may know
    that you have eternal life.
  • Hence, be imitators of God, as beloved children.
  • You can eat any water creature that has fins and scales; those you can eat. Whatever does not have fins or scales, you are not to eat. It is unclean for you.
  • You shall be holy, for I, the Lord, am holy. I have chosen you from among all people that you shall be mine.
  • If you keep my commandments,
you will remain in my love,
just as I have kept my Father’s commandments
    and remain in his love.
  • Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
  • Let what you heard from the beginning
    remain in you.
If what you heard from the beginning
    remains in you,
then you will remain in the Son
    and in the Father.
  • This, in fact, is what you have been called to do, because Christ himself suffered for you and left an example for you to follow in his footsteps.
  • Although you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with a joy that is indescribable and glorious. For you are achieving the goal of your faith, that is, the salvation of your souls.
  • In everything, deal with others as you would like them to deal with you. This is the Law and the Prophets.

Therefore, heed my words. Do not be concerned about your life and what you will have to eat or drink, or about your body and what you will wear. Surely life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing.

Even though I wander
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are at my side,
with your rod and your staff
that comfort me.
