- You, O Lord, are light for my lamp;
O my God, you make my darkness turn to light. - No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a pot or places it under a bed. Rather he places it on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light.
- Nor would someone light a lamp and then put it under a basket; rather, it is placed upon a lampstand so that it may afford light to all in the house. In the same way, your light must shine so that it can be seen by others; this will enable them to observe your good works and give praise to your Father in heaven.
- Can someone hide in a secret place
so that I cannot see him?
Do I not fill heaven and earth? - What then can we say in response to all this? If God is for us, who can be against us?
- Therefore, we can say with confidence:
“The Lord is my helper;
I will not be afraid.
What can anyone do to me?” - Have no fear of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, fear the one who can destroy both soul and body in Gehenna.
- I can do all things in him who strengthens me.
- You are the light of the world. A city built upon a mountain cannot be hidden.
- Do not be deceived; God cannot be mocked. A person will reap only what he sows.
- You want something that you cannot have, so you commit murder. And you covet something but cannot obtain it, so you engage in quarrels and fights. You do not have because you do not ask.
- Or can a man walk on red-hot coals
without scorching his feet? - No one can serve two masters. For you will either hate the one and love the other or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
- Those who live according to the flesh can never be pleasing to God.
- Who can find a worthy wife?
She is far more precious than pearls. - Love cannot result in any harm to the neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfillment of the Law.
- Speak out for those who cannot speak for themselves,
and defend the rights of the destitute. - Faith is the assurance of what we hope for and the conviction about things that cannot be seen.
- No one can have greater love
than to lay down his life for his friends. - With the Lord to protect me I am not afraid.
What can mortals do to me? - The wealth of a rich man is his stronghold;
he regards it as a high wall that cannot be scaled. - How can a young man lead a spotless life?
By living according to your word. - You can eat any water creature that has fins and scales; those you can eat. Whatever does not have fins or scales, you are not to eat. It is unclean for you.
- In peace I lie down and sleep,
for only with your help, O Lord,
can I rest secure. - Some friends can lead us to ruin,
but a true friend is closer than a brother.
Where can I go to hide from your spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to the heavens, you are there;
if I take my rest in the netherworld, you are also there.Ah, Lord God, you made the heavens and the earth by your great power and your outstretched arm. Nothing is impossible for you. No one who conceals his transgressions will prosper,
but one who confesses and renounces them will obtain mercy.Next verse!With image
