Children like olive branches (3/4)

  • Who is a God like you,
    who pardons sin and forgives the transgression
    of the remnant of his inheritance?
    You do not stay angry forever
    but delight to show mercy.
  • But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves.
  • Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.
  • Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.
  • The father of a righteous child has great joy;
    a man who fathers a wise son rejoices in him.
  • Gracious words are a honeycomb,
    sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.
  • The wealth of the rich is their fortified city;
    they imagine it a wall too high to scale.
  • For you, God, tested us;
    you refined us like silver.
  • A cheerful heart is good medicine,
    but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
  • But those who hope in the Lord
    will renew their strength.
    They will soar on wings like eagles;
    they will run and not grow weary,
    they will walk and not be faint.
  • Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.
  • The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.
  • Believers in humble circumstances ought to take pride in their high position. But the rich should take pride in their humiliation—since they will pass away like a wild flower.
  • When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”
  • Do not hate a fellow Israelite in your heart. Rebuke your neighbor frankly so you will not share in their guilt. Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord.
  • The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
  • Do not be like your ancestors, to whom the earlier prophets proclaimed: This is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Turn from your evil ways and your evil practices.’ But they would not listen or pay attention to me, declares the Lord.
  • But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!
  • I, even I, am he who comforts you.
    Who are you that you fear mere mortals,
    human beings who are but grass.
  • Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.
  • For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.
  • I want to know Christ—yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death.
  • When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
  • So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.
  • It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God.

And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken.

However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.
