Comes (2/3)

  • Blessed are those who trust in the Lord,
    whose trust is the Lord.
    They shall be like a tree planted by water,
    sending out its roots by the stream.
    It shall not fear when heat comes,
    and its leaves shall stay green;
    in the year of drought it is not anxious,
    and it does not cease to bear fruit.
  • Rejoice greatly, O daughter Zion!
    Shout aloud, O daughter Jerusalem!
    Lo, your king comes to you;
    triumphant and victorious is he,
    humble and riding on a donkey,
    on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
  • Those who guard their mouths preserve their lives;
    those who open wide their lips come to ruin.
  • And he said, “It is what comes out of a person that defiles. For it is from within, from the human heart, that evil intentions come: fornication, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, folly. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”
  • The hope of the righteous ends in gladness,
    but the expectation of the wicked comes to nothing.
  • And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit.
  • For God alone my soul waits in silence,
    for my hope is from him.
  • Just as you do not know how the breath comes to the bones in the mother's womb, so you do not know the work of God, who makes everything.
  • He humbled you by letting you hunger, then by feeding you with manna, with which neither you nor your ancestors were acquainted, in order to make you understand that one does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.
  • Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.
  • For the Lord gives wisdom;
    from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.
  • The fear of the Lord is instruction in wisdom,
    and humility goes before honor.
  • But I with the voice of thanksgiving
    will sacrifice to you;
    what I have vowed I will pay.
    Deliverance belongs to the Lord!
  • Who is wise and understanding among you? Show by your good life that your works are done with gentleness born of wisdom.
  • Hope deferred makes the heart sick,
    but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
  • To make an apt answer is a joy to anyone,
    and a word in season, how good it is!
  • Deceit is in the mind of those who plan evil,
    but those who counsel peace have joy.
  • From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this ought not to be so.
  • But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
  • Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
  • Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.
  • The wise of heart will heed commandments,
    but a babbling fool will come to ruin.
  • As they came from their mother's womb, so they shall go again, naked as they came; they shall take nothing for their toil, which they may carry away with their hands.
  • I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
    I have no good apart from you.”
  • But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy.

For in much wisdom is much vexation,
and those who increase knowledge increase sorrow.

By contrast, the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against such things.

Indeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.Next verse!With image
