- Then he took a cup, and after offering thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from this, all of you. For this is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed on behalf of many for the forgiveness of sins.”
- After John had baptized all the people, and while Jesus was engaged in prayer after also having been baptized, heaven opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my beloved Son; in you I am well pleased.”
- The end of all things is near. Therefore, lead disciplined lives and be watchful in prayer.
- Therefore, put on the armor of God, so that you will be able to hold fast on the evil day and to hold your ground with all your strength.

- Make your ways known to me, O Lord;
teach me your paths. - However, if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if you are upright in your dealings with your neighbor; if you do not oppress the alien, the orphan, and the widow; if you do not shed innocent blood in this place; and if you do not follow other gods and thereby cause your own destruction, then I will allow you to live in this place, in the land that I gave as a permanent gift to your fathers long ago.
- There is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing secret that will not become known.
- The birth of Jesus Christ occurred in this way. When his mother Mary was engaged to Joseph, but before they came to live together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.
- Let us then make every effort to enter into that rest, so that no one may fall by following that example of refusing to believe.
- But as for you, man of God, you must shun all this. Rather, pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, fortitude, and gentleness.

even though he dies, will live,
and everyone who lives
and believes in me
will never die.
Do you believe this?” - Therefore, prepare your minds for action. Be calm and fix your hopes completely on the grace that you will be granted at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
- Keep falsehood and lying far from me;
give me neither poverty nor riches,
but simply provide me with the food that I need. - Those who live according to the flesh fix their attention on the things of the flesh, while those who live according to the Spirit set their thoughts on spiritual things.
- Return and tell Hezekiah, the leader of my people: Thus says the Lord, the God of David, your father: I have heard, I have seen your tears. I will heal you today, and the day after tomorrow you will go up to the temple of the Lord.
- I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
he set me free from all my fears. - Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a resolute spirit within me. - Just as the living Father sent me
and I have life because of the Father,
so whoever feeds upon me will live because of me.
