Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. | Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. |
I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid? | I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a young woman. |
|
He must increase, but I must decrease. | He must become greater; I must become less. |
Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise. | Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise. |
I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. | I keep my eyes always on the Lord. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. |
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing. | If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing. |
I will praise thee, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. | I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. |
I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever. | I will exalt you, my God the King; I will praise your name for ever and ever. |
For I have satiated the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul. | I will refresh the weary and satisfy the faint. |
I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in right paths. | I instruct you in the way of wisdom and lead you along straight paths. |
I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: and I will sing praises unto thee among the nations. | I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. |
Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me. | Jesus said, “I am with you for only a short time, and then I am going to the one who sent me.” |
Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee. | Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. |
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. | I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. |
Therefore I will look unto the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me. | But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me. |
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. | Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. |
Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. | Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. |
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong. | That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. |
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. | I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. |
Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee. Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name. | Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. |
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. | I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. |
And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. | If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. |
But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. | No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. |
Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust. | Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge. |
Thus will I magnify myself, and sanctify myself; and I will be known in the eyes of many nations, and they shall know that I am the Lord. | And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the Lord. |
