- I, I alone, am the one who comforts you.
Why then do you fear mortal men who must die,
human beings who must perish like grass? - For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but rather a spirit of power and of love and of wisdom.
- When Jesus heard this, he said, “It is not the healthy who need a physician, but rather those who are sick.”
- He who guards his mouth makes his life secure,
but one who talks excessively ensures his own downfall. - For you are aware that you were ransomed from your futile way of life inherited from your ancestors not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
- Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which separated and came to rest on each one of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages, as the Spirit enabled them to do so.
- And just as no human being comprehends any person’s innermost being except the person’s own spirit within him, so also no one comprehends what pertains to God except the Spirit of God.
- Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may show yourselves blameless and beyond reproach, children of God without spot in the midst of an evil and depraved generation, among which you shine like lights in the world as you hold fast tenaciously to the word of life.
- He then called the people and his disciples to him and said to them, “Anyone who wishes to follow me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”
- A man is haughty until disaster overtakes him,
but humility comes before honors. - A true friend is one at all times,
and a brother is born to render help in time of need. - But the one who did not know those wishes, and who acted in such a manner as to deserve a beating, will be beaten less severely. Much will be demanded of a person to whom much has been given, and even more will be asked of a person to whom more has been entrusted.
- A man’s attraction is his kindness;
it is far better to be poor than to be a liar. - If your brother should sin, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. Even if he wrongs you seven times a day, and comes back to you seven times to say, ‘I am sorry,’ you must forgive him.
- There is a way that seems right to a man,
but the end of it leads to death. - The righteous call out, and the Lord hears them;
he rescues them from all their troubles.
The Lord remains close to the brokenhearted,
and he saves those whose spirit is crushed. - When anyone turns a deaf ear to the law,
even his prayer is detestable. - A fool is quick to show his anger,
but a prudent man ignores an insult. - After he had decided to follow this course of action, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to receive Mary into your home as your wife. For this child has been conceived in her womb through the Holy Spirit.”
- A man may plan his own course,
but the Lord makes his steps secure. - The righteous is remembered with blessings,
but the name of the wicked fades away. - Above all, maintain the fervor of your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.
- For thus says the One who is high and exalted,
who lives eternally
and whose name is holy:
I dwell in a high and holy place
but I am with the contrite and the humble,
to revive the spirit of the humble
and to revive the heart of the contrite. - They shall be mine,
says the Lord of hosts,
my own special possession
on the day when I act,
and I will have compassion on them
as a father has compassion
on the son who serves him. - Many are the plans in a human mind,
but it is the purpose of the Lord that will prevail.
Turn away from the mouth that deceives
and keep your distance from lips that mislead. He said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised. He is not here. See the place where they laid him.”
