- So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full.
- The Lord watches over the foreigner
and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
but he frustrates the ways of the wicked. - For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
- Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
- For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.
- What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?
- Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!
- For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.
- Here is a trustworthy saying:
If we died with him,
we will also live with him. - No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.
- We love because He first loved us.
- If either of them falls down,
one can help the other up.
But pity anyone who falls
and has no one to help them up. - What then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? By no means!
- This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit.
- Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.
- For we live by faith, not by sight.
- For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands.
- We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.
- Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him.
- For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
- Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
- Restore us, Lord God Almighty;
make your face shine on us,
that we may be saved. - And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.
- This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.
- Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
