One who despairs should have the support of his friends even if he has forsaken the fear of the Almighty. | To him who is ready to faint, kindness should be shown from his friend; even to him who forsakes the fear of the Almighty. |
But I know that my Redeemer lives, and that at the end he will stand upon the dust. | But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives. In the end, he will stand upon the earth. |

I have not strayed from the commandments of his lips; I have treasured in my heart the words of his mouth. | I haven’t gone back from the commandment of his lips. I have treasured up the words of his mouth more than my necessary food. |
And yet he is aware of everywhere I go; if he were to test me, I would emerge like pure gold. My footsteps have not strayed from the path he established; I have followed his way and never turned aside. | But he knows the way that I take. When he has tried me, I will come out like gold. My foot has held fast to his steps. I have kept his way, and not turned away. |
But the Almighty we cannot find; he is unequaled in power and judgment, and in his righteousness he will not violate justice. | We can’t reach the Almighty. He is exalted in power. In justice and great righteousness, he will not oppress. |
Then Job arose, tore his cloak, and shaved his head. He threw himself prostrate on the ground and said: “Naked I emerged from my mother’s womb, and naked I will return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” | Then Job arose, and tore his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down on the ground, and worshiped. He said, “Naked I came out of my mother’s womb, and naked will I return there. Yahweh gave, and Yahweh has taken away. Blessed be Yahweh’s name.” |
The Lord then said, “Very well. All that he has is in your power. However, you may not lay a hand upon him.” So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord. | Yahweh said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power. Only on himself don’t stretch out your hand.” So Satan went out from the presence of Yahweh. |
I have made a covenant with my eyes not to look with desire upon a virgin. | I made a covenant with my eyes; how then should I look lustfully at a young woman? |
Blessed is the man whom God reproves. Therefore, do not reject the discipline of the Almighty. | Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects. Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty. |
Thereupon the Lord restored the prosperity of Job after he had prayed for his friends, and he enriched him with twice as much as he had possessed before. | Yahweh restored Job’s prosperity when he prayed for his friends. Yahweh gave Job twice as much as he had before. |
