But whoever has worldly goods and sees his brother or sister in need, and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God remain in him?If anyone is rich in worldly possessions and sees a brother in need but refuses to open his heart, how can the love of God abide in him?
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.No one can serve two masters. For you will either hate the one and love the other or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
As sorrowful yet always rejoicing, as poor yet making many rich, as having nothing and yet possessing all things.As sorrowful, and yet we are always rejoicing; as poor, and yet we make many rich; as having nothing, and yet we possess everything.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I wait for Him.”The Lord is my portion, I say to myself; therefore, I will place my hope in him.
When good things increase, those who consume them increase. So what is the advantage to their owners except to look at them?When riches increase, so do those who are eager to accumulate them, and those who have accumulated them must remain content simply to feast their eyes on them.
I have seen that every labor and every skill which is done is the result of rivalry between a person and his neighbor. This too is futility and striving after wind.Then I came to realize that all toil and skill in work derive from one person’s envy of another. This also is vanity and a chase after the wind.
And he would answer and say to them, “The one who has two tunics is to share with the one who has none; and the one who has food is to do likewise.”He said to them in reply, “Anyone who has two coats must share with the person who has none, and whoever has food must do likewise.”
The ransom of a person’s life is his wealth, But the poor hears no rebuke.A wealthy man pays a ransom to save his life; a poor man never has to worry about such threats.
As they had their pasture, they became satisfied, And as they became satisfied, their heart became proud; Therefore they forgot Me.When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud of heart and quickly forgot me.
You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male slave, or his female slave, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.You shall not covet your neighbor’s house.
