Bible Verses about Materialism

For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it, either. If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.
One who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor one who loves abundance with its income. This too is futility. Those who love money will never have enough. How meaningless to think that wealth brings true happiness!
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal.Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.
For what does it benefit a person to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul?
But He said to them, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one is affluent does his life consist of his possessions.”Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.”
Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever abandon you,”Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”
While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
Better is a little with the fear of the Lord Than great treasure, and turmoil with the treasure.Better to have little, with fear for the Lord, than to have great treasure and inner turmoil.
But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge people into ruin and destruction. But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction.
As he came naked from his mother’s womb, so he will return as he came. He will take nothing from the fruit of his labor that he can carry in his hand.We all come to the end of our lives as naked and empty-handed as on the day we were born. We can’t take our riches with us.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.
How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen above silver. How much better to get wisdom than gold, and good judgment than silver!
Jesus said to him, “If you want to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”
Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or expensive apparel, but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. And I want women to be modest in their appearance. They should wear decent and appropriate clothing and not draw attention to themselves by the way they fix their hair or by wearing gold or pearls or expensive clothes. For women who claim to be devoted to God should make themselves attractive by the good things they do.
Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy.Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment.
Keep deception and lies far from me, Give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with the food that is my portion.First, help me never to tell a lie. Second, give me neither poverty nor riches! Give me just enough to satisfy my needs.
Therefore, treat the parts of your earthly body as dead to sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry. So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
For what good will it do a person if he gains the whole world, but forfeits his soul? Or what will a person give in exchange for his soul? And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?
But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment.Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth.

All day long he is craving, While the righteous gives and does not hold back. Some people are always greedy for more, but the godly love to give!
Riches do not benefit on the day of wrath, But righteousness rescues from death.Riches won’t help on the day of judgment, but right living can save you from death.
And the congregation of those who believed were of one heart and soul; and not one of them claimed that anything belonging to him was his own, but all things were common property to them. All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had.
When you set your eyes on it, it is gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings Like an eagle that flies toward the heavens. In the blink of an eye wealth disappears, for it will sprout wings and fly away like an eagle.
A rich person’s wealth is his strong city, And like a high wall in his own imagination. The rich think of their wealth as a strong defense; they imagine it to be a high wall of safety.

But whoever has worldly goods and sees his brother or sister in need, and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God remain in him?If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion—how can God’s love be in that person?
