People with understanding control their anger; a hot temper shows great foolishness. | He who is slow to wrath has great understanding, But he who is impulsive exalts folly. |
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. | Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil. |

Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. | Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer. |
Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. | With all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love. |
But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently. | But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance. |
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. | And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. |
Better to be patient than powerful; better to have self-control than to conquer a city. | He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city. |
Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. | Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass. |
Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord. | Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord! |
The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm. | The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace. |
The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent. | The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. |
Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. | Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering. |
May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus. | Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus. |
For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning. | For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning. |
Listen to my voice in the morning, Lord. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly. | My voice You shall hear in the morning, O Lord; In the morning I will direct it to You, And I will look up. |
So the Lord must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help. | Therefore the Lord will wait, that He may be gracious to you; And therefore He will be exalted, that He may have mercy on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; Blessed are all those who wait for Him. |
The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. | The Lord is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and abounding in mercy. |
But the one who endures to the end will be saved. | But he who endures to the end shall be saved. |
But God had mercy on me so that Christ Jesus could use me as a prime example of his great patience with even the worst sinners. Then others will realize that they, too, can believe in him and receive eternal life. | However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life. |
But you must not forget this one thing, dear friends: A day is like a thousand years to the Lord, and a thousand years is like a day. | But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. |
Preach the word of God. Be prepared, whether the time is favorable or not. Patiently correct, rebuke, and encourage your people with good teaching. | Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. |
So you, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day your Lord is coming. | Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. |
I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take away your crown. | Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown. |
“Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead.” Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish. | So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the Lord your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm. |
The hopes of the godly result in happiness, but the expectations of the wicked come to nothing. | The hope of the righteous will be gladness, But the expectation of the wicked will perish. |
