- Honesty guides good people;
dishonesty destroys treacherous people. - Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.
- The Sovereign Lord is my strength!
He makes me as surefooted as a deer,
able to tread upon the heights. - Instead, I want to see a mighty flood of justice,
an endless river of righteous living. - We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation.
- Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
- Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
- A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
- Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.
- The husband should fulfill his wife’s sexual needs, and the wife should fulfill her husband’s needs. The wife gives authority over her body to her husband, and the husband gives authority over his body to his wife.
- For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.
- Avoid all perverse talk;
stay away from corrupt speech. - Rejoice, O people of Zion!
Shout in triumph, O people of Jerusalem!
Look, your king is coming to you.
He is righteous and victorious,
yet he is humble, riding on a donkey—
riding on a donkey’s colt. - Work brings profit,
but mere talk leads to poverty! - He heals the brokenhearted
and bandages their wounds. - But Lord, you remain the same forever!
Your throne continues from generation to generation. - He proclaimed his covenant—the Ten Commandments—which he commanded you to keep, and which he wrote on two stone tablets.
- The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.
- Hiding hatred makes you a liar;
slandering others makes you a fool. - Love prospers when a fault is forgiven,
but dwelling on it separates close friends. - Let my teaching fall on you like rain;
let my speech settle like dew.
Let my words fall like rain on tender grass,
like gentle showers on young plants. - You must not covet your neighbor’s house. You must not covet your neighbor’s wife, male or female servant, ox or donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor.
- For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There’s no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.
- Plans go wrong for lack of advice;
many advisers bring success. - How wonderful and pleasant it is
when brothers live together in harmony!
Wise words bring approval,
but fools are destroyed by their own words.This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.Next verse!With image
