- In my distress I called out to the Lord;
he answered by setting me free. - At the appointed time, while we were still helpless, Christ died for the ungodly.
- Rather, let justice flow like a river,
and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. - Every word of God has proved to be true;
he is a shield to those who trust in him. - While Peter was thus imprisoned, the Church prayed fervently to God for him.
- The Lord loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is filled with his kindness. - So we must not fall asleep as the others do, but we must stay alert and sober.
- A fool spurns his father’s correction,
but whoever heeds admonition is prudent. - Acquire wisdom and gain understanding;
never forget or turn aside from my words. - Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice,
for they will have their fill. - But I say to you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
- And this is the testimony:
God gave us eternal life,
and this life is in his Son. - Truly, you bless the righteous, O Lord;
you surround them with your goodwill as with a shield. - O Lord, you are kind and forgiving,
filled with kindness for all who cry to you. - Hence, I advise you to be guided by the Spirit, so that you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
- Sing praise to the Lord for his mighty deeds;
let this be known throughout the entire world. - Test everything, and hold fast to what is good. Avoid every form of evil.
- Once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.
- Therefore, encourage one another and strengthen one another, as indeed you are doing.
- Whoever possesses the Son
possesses life;
whoever does not possess the Son of God
does not possess life. - For there is one God,
and there is one mediator between God and man,
Christ Jesus, himself a man. - In God alone be at rest, O my soul;
it is from him that my hope comes. - Blessed is the man whom God reproves.
Therefore, do not reject the discipline of the Almighty. - The future bodes well for him
who is generous in helping those in need
and who conducts his affairs with justice. - All you need to do is to say ‘Yes’ if you mean ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ if you mean ‘No.’ Anything beyond this comes from the evil one.
