Bible Verses about 'A'
- A wise son brings joy to his father,
but a foolish son gives grief to his mother. - Your word is a lamp for my feet
and a light to my path. - No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a pot or places it under a bed. Rather he places it on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light.
- A man’s attraction is his kindness;
it is far better to be poor than to be a liar. - A cheerful heart is excellent medicine,
but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. - Create in me a clean heart, O God,
and renew a resolute spirit within me. - I have made a covenant with my eyes
not to look with desire upon a virgin. - The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,
a refuge in times of distress. - A gentle reply turns away wrath,
but a harsh word arouses anger. - A true friend is one at all times,
and a brother is born to render help in time of need. - Righteousness is a sign of a nation’s greatness,
but sin degrades any people. - A wholesome tongue is a tree of life,
but an undisciplined tongue crushes the spirit. - A truthful witness does not lie,
but a false witness lies incessantly. - You are the light of the world. A city built upon a mountain cannot be hidden.
- A perverse man sows strife,
and a tale-bearer destroys close friendships. - Some friends can lead us to ruin,
but a true friend is closer than a brother. - Fine words are not becoming to a fool,
and much less are false words to a noble. - My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
a contrite and humble heart, O God,
you will not spurn. - The lips of a fool cause strife,
and his mouth provokes a flogging. - A man is joyful when he utters apt answers,
and even more satisfying is a word in season. - For everything there is a season,
and a time for every activity under heaven. - For to you a thousand years
are like a yesterday that has passed
or one of the watches of the night. - There is a way that seems right to a man,
but the end of it leads to death. - One who gossips reveals secrets,
but a trustworthy man keeps things hidden. - I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you. I will remove from your body a heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh in its place.
- How much more valuable a man is than a sheep! Therefore, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.
- One who finds a wife finds happiness
and receives favor from the Lord. - A wealthy man pays a ransom to save his life;
a poor man never has to worry about such threats. - Hope deferred sickens the heart,
but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life. - A fool gives free rein to his anger,
but a wise man bides his time and calms it. - A fool is quick to show his anger,
but a prudent man ignores an insult. - It is rash to pledge a sacred gift,
or to make a vow and then have second thoughts. - But you are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people claimed by God as his own possession,” so that you may proclaim the praise of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
- But do not ignore this one fact, beloved: with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.
- Anxiety in the human heart weighs it down,
but a kind word makes it glad. - It is better to spend one day in your courts
than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in God’s house
than dwell inside the tents of the wicked. - The words of a wise man win favor,
but a fool’s tongue is his undoing. - A house and wealth are inherited from parents,
but a prudent wife is a gift from the Lord. - Lying lips conceal hatred,
and anyone who slanders another is a fool. - Like a city that has been breached and made defenseless
is the man devoid of self-control. - For his anger lasts for only a moment,
while his goodwill endures for a lifetime.
Weeping may last throughout the night,
but at daybreak there is rejoicing. - It is better to be a patient man rather than a warrior,
one who controls his temper rather than one who captures a city. - How can a young man lead a spotless life?
By living according to your word. - The father of a good man will rejoice;
he who begets a wise son will delight in him. - A wise man will heed commandments,
but a babbling fool will come to grief. - Until a spirit from on high
is poured out upon us,
and the wilderness becomes an orchard
and the fruitful field becomes a forest. - A fool spurns his father’s correction,
but whoever heeds admonition is prudent. - The wealth of a rich man is his stronghold;
he regards it as a high wall that cannot be scaled. - Rejoice with all your heart, O daughter Zion.
Shout for joy, O daughter Jerusalem.
See, your king is coming to you,
triumphant and victorious,
humble and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey. - For six days work can be done, but the seventh is a Sabbath of rest, a holy assembly. You will do no work on it; it is a Sabbath of the Lord in all of your dwellings.
