Bible Verses about 'Anger'

  • A gentle answer deflects anger,
but harsh words make tempers flare.
  • The Lord is compassionate and merciful,
slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
  • Fools vent their anger,
but the wise quietly hold it back.
  • And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.
  • For his anger lasts only a moment,
but his favor lasts a lifetime!
Weeping may last through the night,
but joy comes with the morning.
  • People with understanding control their anger;
a hot temper shows great foolishness.
  • O Israel, my faithless people,
    come home to me again,
    for I am merciful.
I will not be angry with you forever.
  • Seek the Lord, all who are humble,
    and follow his commands.
Seek to do what is right
    and to live humbly.
Perhaps even yet the Lord will protect you—
protect you from his anger on that day of destruction.
  • Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.
  • Better to be patient than powerful;
better to have self-control than to conquer a city.
  • “Don’t tear your clothing in your grief,
    but tear your hearts instead.”
Return to the Lord your God,
for he is merciful and compassionate,
slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
He is eager to relent and not punish.
  • The Lord is slow to get angry, but his power is great,
and he never lets the guilty go unpunished.
He displays his power in the whirlwind and the storm.
The billowing clouds are the dust beneath his feet.
  • Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.
  • Where is another God like you,
who pardons the guilt of the remnant,
overlooking the sins of his special people?
You will not stay angry with your people forever,
because you delight in showing unfailing love.
  • A fool is quick-tempered,
but a wise person stays calm when insulted.
  • Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say,
    “I will take revenge;
    I will pay them back,”
    says the Lord.
  • When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
  • You must not exploit a widow or an orphan. If you exploit them in any way and they cry out to me, then I will certainly hear their cry. My anger will blaze against you, and I will kill you with the sword. Then your wives will be widows and your children fatherless.
  • Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.
  • Fearing people is a dangerous trap,
but trusting the Lord means safety.
  • You are my rock and my fortress.
For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger.
  • Keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters. Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it!
  • A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions.
The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.
  • The Lord is my light and my salvation—
so why should I be afraid?
The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger,
    so why should I tremble?
  • So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself.

Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love? Does it mean he no longer loves us if we have trouble or calamity, or are persecuted, or hungry, or destitute, or in danger, or threatened with death?
