- And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.”
- Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.
- The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice,
And he who begets a wise child will delight in him. - As you do not know what is the way of the wind,
Or how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child,
So you do not know the works of God who makes everything. - Can a woman forget her nursing child,
And not have compassion on the son of her womb?
Surely they may forget,
Yet I will not forget you.
See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands;
Your walls are continually before Me. - Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child.
- You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
- A wise son makes a glad father,
But a foolish son is the grief of his mother. - Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
- So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.”

- Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
- But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.”
- You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the Lord your God chastens you.
- My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord,
Nor detest His correction;
For whom the Lord loves He corrects,
Just as a father the son in whom he delights. - So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
- Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
- My son, give attention to my words;
Incline your ear to my sayings.
Do not let them depart from your eyes;
Keep them in the midst of your heart. - Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
- My son, do not forget my law,
But let your heart keep my commands;
For length of days and long life
And peace they will add to you. - My son, keep your father’s command,
And do not forsake the law of your mother. - No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.
- By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. - Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.
- In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
- He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
- He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
- For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
- As he came from his mother’s womb, naked shall he return,
To go as he came;
And he shall take nothing from his labor
Which he may carry away in his hand. - And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
- “They shall be Mine,” says the Lord of hosts,
“On the day that I make them My jewels.
And I will spare them
As a man spares his own son who serves him.” - Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,
Whose sin is covered. - Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
- For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
- For the Lord is our Judge,
The Lord is our Lawgiver,
The Lord is our King;
He will save us.
