- Can a woman forget her nursing child,
or show no compassion for the child of her womb?
Even these may forget,
yet I will not forget you.
See, I have inscribed you on the palms of my hands;
your walls are continually before me. - Train children in the right way,
and when old, they will not stray. - Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look, the young woman is with child and shall bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel.
- Hear, my child, and accept my words,
that the years of your life may be many. - But just when he had resolved to do this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”
- Who is wise and understanding among you? Show by your good life that your works are done with gentleness born of wisdom.
- Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.

for length of days and years of life
and abundant welfare they will give you. - Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God. - By faith he received power of procreation, even though he was too old—and Sarah herself was barren—because he considered him faithful who had promised.

even death on a cross. - All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
“Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall name him Emmanuel,”
which means, “God is with us.” - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
- You shall not abuse any widow or orphan. If you do abuse them, when they cry out to me, I will surely heed their cry; my wrath will burn, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children orphans.
- No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son, who is close to the Father's heart, who has made him known.
- By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
and all their host by the breath of his mouth. - God's love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him.
- For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
- Those who believe in him are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
- As they came from their mother's womb, so they shall go again, naked as they came; they shall take nothing for their toil, which they may carry away with their hands.
- And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father's only son, full of grace and truth.
- They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, my special possession on the day when I act, and I will spare them as parents spare their children who serve them.
- Happy are those whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is covered. - Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
- For to me, living is Christ and dying is gain.
- For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our ruler,
the Lord is our king; he will save us.
